MUJI / MUJI EXHIBITION
Muji Exhibition
Milan, Italy
2003
This Exhibition, held during the Milan International Furniture Fair in 2003, introduced Muji to the European public and was conceived above all as a showcase of the philosophy and approach of Muji and as a launchpad for their Global intentions.
Over 10,000 people attended the exhibition, which lasted for 5 days.
The exhibit was held in an abandoned historic naval manufacturing complex, in the city of Milan.
The project, conceived together with the Muji cultural advisory team ( Kenya Hara, Naoto Fukasawa and SuperPotato ) was curated and produced by Tim Power Architects and Yoichi Nakamuta, one of the leading figures in the international and Japanese design scene.
The show was published in over 100 journals, and touted by the press and public as one of the Salone’s and Milan’s major cultural events in 2003.
The exhibit constitutes the first Muji exhibition outside of Japan and has aided in the stimulation of curiosity and interest in Muji throughout the Global design community.
The exhibition was not intended to introduce new product ( with the exception of a symbolic gesture, a chair and table by the Italian designer Enzo Mari ), rather, to underline the companies philosophy, showcase its environmental and social agenda, and put forward in a simple manner its innovative manufacturing processes.
