LOUIS VUITTON OMOTESANDO _ VIP ROOM
Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan
In the Louis Vuitton flagship building designed by Jun Aoki, Studio Power, in close collaboration with the brand’s internal design team led by Eric Carlson (later founder of Carbondale), co-designed a series of VIP Rooms for Louis Vuitton global flagship stores. To address the growing demand for privacy, exclusivity, and highly personalized service among top-tier clientele, these private environments were conceived to redefine the relationship between luxury retail and hospitality, creating spaces dedicated entirely to the client experience. Anticipating a model that would, decades later, become central to high-end retail worldwide, the VIP Rooms introduced a new level of intimacy and bespoke service within the global commercial environment.
Each space combines custom-designed furniture, exceptional materials, curated cultural content, and dedicated hospitality services, including private refreshments and concierge-level attention. Carefully crafted to feel both discreet and residential, the environments offer invited guests and members a calm and refined retreat from the public retail space. More than private shopping rooms, the VIP Areas embody Louis Vuitton’s commitment to craftsmanship, personalization, and exceptional client care at the highest level.
At the center of the space, a suspended lantern-like structure functions as a transformative architectural element. When lowered on demand, it becomes an intimate changing room, creating an even more secluded environment dedicated to comfort, privacy, and luxury. Conceived primarily as an architectural focal point, the luminous volume appears to float within the interior, softly illuminating the surrounding space. Positioned prominently at the corner of the building, it operates as a beacon visible from Omotesando—an unmistakable expression of Louis Vuitton’s presence on one of the world’s most prestigious luxury shopping streets.

As the global desire for luxury goods increases and becomes more diversified, so inevitably does the size of Luxury shops. As the client base expands, so does the need for providing a sense of esclusitivity to the upper sector of the clientele. Studio Power was requested by Louis Vuittton to study this phenomenon. As a result of the collaboration with the in-house design group, VIP areas were designed to provide environments built for the exclusive needs of the increasingly demanding upper-end of the Louis Vuitton clientele. To accommodate these clients, Louis Vuitton Global shops will include private VIP areas, where privileged shoppers can be catered to in an exclusive manner. These areas include custom furniture, exclusive materials as well as increased services, cultural content and provisions/ refreshment. Exclusive and Limited Editions, and Custom Products are made available to invited clientele and members.
